After your scholarships have been gathered, you can filter them by choosing “FILTER”. A drop down list will appear allowing you to choose from 29 different filters which include merit based, gender base and many more.

To the right of the list, you can also do a “SORT” based on due date and scholarship amount.

Once you find a scholarship you would like to apply to, choose “VIEW MORE DETAILS”. You will then be directed to the “APPLY” page.

How to Choose a Major
Choosing your major is one of the biggest decisions you will ever make in your life. It’s a choice you make when you’re young, a choice you make when you’re still maturing and getting to grips with the world around you, but it is one that will dictate the trajectory of your future.

If you choose incorrectly, then you could pay the price in later years. To make sure that you make the right choice and have no regrets, it’s important to look at all potential majors from all angles. You need to ask yourself a series of questions, taking your time to go over each of them:

What Should I Major In?

Which Majors Will Give me the Most Job Satisfaction?
Which Majors will Become Obsolete in a Few Years?
Do I Need a Minor?
Ultimately you’re the one who has to make the decision and there is no do-over. But this guide should be able to help you with that decision, with your major and with the career path that you eventual embark upon.

Top Majors That Will See the Most Growth in the Next Five Years
Trends come and go. Philosophy, psychology, sports science, social studies—it seems like every major has had its day. These trends aren’t always related to real-life careers. Sometimes a popular film or book can sway opinion, sometimes it’s down to the promise of a big paycheck.

This generation is considerably less interested in majors related to education and humanities, much more interested in business majors, and just as interested in social studies and natural sciences. But what does the future hold? Will business majors remain dominant? Will computing and medical careers be the main focus of this generation of students?

What follows are majors that are likely to see the most growth over the next 5 years:

Biomedical Engineer: Medical science is constantly advancing, changing the way we live, improving our lives and doing things previously not thought possible. Researchers are at the forefront of those advances and the biomedical sector is where many breakthroughs are made. Anyone looking to discover the next big cure or to decipher a previously unknown illness will see this career as the ultimate goal.
Dentists and Dental Hygienists: Dentists are often portrayed as deeply unhappy people, which no doubt stems from the fact that they have one of the highest suicide rates in the US. But this is a profession on the rise. People are living longer, taking more care of their teeth and looking to embrace revolutionary cosmetic treatments. As a result, the demand for dentists and dental hygienists is set to boom.
Interpreting, Translation, Linguistics: The world is more interconnected than ever before and the demand for multilingual speakers has never been higher. You can make a lot of money if you are fluent in several languages and as the business marketplace becomes more of a global one that will only increase. That’s why associated majors are likely to see a lot of growth.
Project Managers, Business Managers: Project management is now an essential part of business. Techniques like Agile and Scrum are common place in business from east to west and as wages climb alongside demand, more students are looking to learn the skills they need to manage projects and businesses.
Mental Health Majors: The mental health sector is growing off the back of an increased public awareness and acceptance. We’re more open to mental health problems than ever, which is great for those suffering from such issues and it’s also a motivation for anyone looking to become part of the solution. Students with personal histories and family histories of mental health are also more likely to focus on this sector in order to give a little back.
Surgeons: Plastic surgery has become an accepted practice. It’s not just about vanity either, as plastic surgery can be used to cure lifelong ailments, to help build self-confidence and to ensure a better and healthier existence. As it becomes more and more a part of every day society, the amount of people looking to train as surgeons will also likely increase.

How to Avoid Scholarship Scams
Scholarship scams are real and they are costing the next generation of learners, and their families, millions of dollars every year. By our estimations, these scams trick just under 2% of college students every year, but don’t let that seemingly insignificant figure fool you. There are more than 50 million college students in the US, which means that fewer than 2% equates to around 350,000 students every year.

These scams cost those students and the US economy in excess of $5 million a year. But there’s much more to it than that. Scholarship scams may stop a student from applying to the college they want to apply to; they may strip them of whatever savings they have, forcing them to take a part-time job instead of fulfilling their higher education goals.

They are damaging, life-changing and, unfortunately, they are also on the increase. It’s not all bad news though as scholarship scams are fairly easy to spot. It’s just a case of knowing what to look out for, as that way you can sense them coming and stay well clear before they get a chance to do you harm.

Common Scholarship Scams
What follows is a number of popular scams currently doing the rounds. Actual scholarship scams come in many forms and may differ slightly to the scams described below.

Scholarship Lotteries
There are scholarship programs out there that require a small fee, often no more than $50, and promise to pay out an amount of at least $1,000 to chosen applicants. These may seem reasonable, but that’s what they’re counting on. They’re hoping that you’ll hand over the money because it’s such a small amount and because the reward is so great. Many applicants do just that.

These scholarship programs have been known to pay out, but they typically release just 1 payment and by that point they have earned more than enough to be able to release that payment and remain in profit. If 100 applicants pay them $50 each then they will have $5,000, which means they can afford to release $1,000 and pocket the rest. It is not unheard of for these programs to get over 1,000 applications, which means their profits are considerably higher.

Even though the entrance fee seems very small, it’s just not worth it. They are glorified lotteries and nothing more. If you’re struggling to put together enough money to pay for your fees then you need all the money you can get. So, don’t throw it into the endless pit that are scholarship lotteries.

Any scheme that requires money upfront should be viewed with suspicion.

# The 2024–25 FAFSA form will be available in December 2023, not Oct. 1. Check out our video about 2024–25 FAFSA updates.

If you need financial aid to pay for college, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form. The 2023–24 FAFSA form is now available at fafsa.gov. 
It’s easier to complete the FAFSA form if you gather what you need ahead of time. Here are a few items to help you fill it out. 


## 1.	Your FSA ID
If you haven’t done so already, create an FSA ID, which is your account username and password. The FSA ID is a digital legal signature that lets you complete and update the FAFSA form, so create your own and keep it safe. Parents of dependent students will need to use their own FSA ID to complete the FAFSA process.
We recommend creating your account early—even before you’re ready to complete the FAFSA form. This extra step can avoid delays in the process especially since it can take up to three days before you can use your FSA ID.

 Important: Do not create an FSA ID on someone else’s behalf. This includes parents. A parent should not create an FSA ID for their children and a student should not create an FSA ID for their parents. It may cause issues signing and submitting the FAFSA form and lead to financial aid delays. (Also, it’s against the rules.)

## 2.	Your Social Security Number
You can find your Social Security number (SSN) on your Social Security card. If you don’t have access to it or you don’t know where it is,  you can request a new or replacement SSN card  from the Social Security Administration.
If you are not a U.S. citizen but meet other eligibility criteria for federal student aid as an eligible noncitizen, you’ll also need your Alien Registration number. Both parents and students need this information for the FAFSA form. 

## 3.	Your Driver’s License Number
You’ll need to enter your driver’s license on the FAFSA form. If you don’t have a driver’s license, then don’t worry about this step. 

# 4.	Your Federal Income Tax Return

On the 2023–24 FAFSA form, you (and your parents, if you are a dependent student) will report your 2021 income.
Since you probably filed your 2021 income tax return by the time the FAFSA form is available, you may be eligible to transfer your tax information into the FAFSA form right away using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT).  
Not everyone is eligible to use the IRS DRT 
The IRS DRT does not input all the financial information required on the FAFSA form. Therefore, you should have your 2021 tax return and 2021 IRS W-2 available for reference. 
The IRS DRT is the fastest, most accurate way to input your tax return information into the FAFSA form. To address security and privacy concerns related to the IRS DRT, the tax return information you transfer from the IRS will not display on fafsa.gov. Instead, you’ll see “Transferred from the IRS” in the appropriate fields on fafsa.gov.

You cannot use your 2022 tax information. We understand that for some families the 2021 income doesn’t accurately reflect your current financial situation. If you experienced a reduction in income since the 2021 tax year, you should complete the FAFSA form with 2021 tax information. Then, contact the school where you plan to attend and explain and document the change in income. School officials can assess your situation and adjust your FAFSA form if warranted. You cannot update your 2023–24 FAFSA form with your 2022 tax information after filing the 2022 tax return. The 2023–24 FAFSA form requires 2021 information.


# 5.	Records of Your Untaxed Income

The FAFSA questions about untaxed income, such as child support, interest income, and veterans’ noneducation benefits may apply to you. On the 2023–24 FAFSA form, you’ll report 2021 tax or calendar year information when asked these questions. Find specific details for parent’s untaxed income and student’s untaxed income.

## 6.	Records of Your Assets (Money)
This section includes savings and checking account balances, as well as the value of investments, such as stocks, bonds, and real estate (excluding your primary residence.) Report the current amounts as of the date you sign the FAFSA form, rather than reporting the 2021 tax year amounts. 
Note:  Misreporting the value of investments is a common mistake on the FAFSA form. Please carefully review what is and is not considered a student investment and parent investment to make sure you don’t over- or under-report information. You may be surprised by what can (and cannot) be excluded. 

## 7.	List of the School(s) You’re Interested in Attending
Be sure to add any college you’re considering, even if you haven’t applied or been accepted yet. 
Even if it’s only a slight chance you’ll apply to a college, list the school on your FAFSA form. You can always remove a school later if you decide not to apply, but if you wait to add a school, you could miss out on financial aid. 
The schools you list on your FAFSA form will automatically receive your FAFSA results electronically. They will use your FAFSA information to determine the types and amounts of financial aid you may receive. 
If you add a school to your FAFSA form and later decide not to apply for admission to that school, that’s OK! The school likely won’t offer you aid until you’ve been accepted anyway. 
You can list up to 10 schools at a time on your FAFSA form.  Find out what you can do if you’re applying to more than 10 schools. 
Tip:  Several states require you to list schools in a particular order to be considered for state aid. For instance, you might need to list a state school first. Find out whether your state has a requirement for the order you list schools on your FAFSA form.
